Mental health

In an emergency or a life-threatening situation, call emergency services on triple zero – 000.

Everyone needs help sometimes.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re young or old. Even the people who look like they have it all together need a hand every now and again. It’s just part of being human. We all need to take steps every day to look after our mental health and wellbeing. And it’s always okay to reach out if you need support navigating the ups and downs of life.

Mental health support services

There are free, confidential specialised youth support services you can access by yourself whenever you want to have a chat or find out more information. No judgement, no expectations, just support.

These services won’t share your information without your consent unless they are concerned you or someone else is at risk of serious harm.

If you feel you can, it can help to involve your parent or guardian in your mental health journey. This can give you support and let them know how best to be there for you. Mental health services can help you to have this conversation together.

Find a health service in your local area using Find a mental health service or Medicare Mental Health. For more services, visit our Assistance webpage.

Check in with your friends

Sometimes we notice our friends aren’t themselves. Perhaps they’re acting differently to usual, or don’t seem to be feeling their best.

It can help to have a chat together. You can recommend they connect with Kids Helpline or headspace — or you can even use these services yourself to support you to reach out to your friend.

These short videos have been developed by the Queensland Family and Child Commission and the Queensland Mental Health Commission in collaboration with young people to help you understand more about the various youth mental health support services available, and your ability to access them.
