What are the Child Safe Standards
The 10 Child Safe Standards are one of two components of Queensland’s Child Safe Organisation system. They aim to protect children from harm when they interact with businesses and organisations by creating environments that prioritise their safety and wellbeing.
The Standards relate to organisational factors such as leadership and governance, staff and volunteer skills, training and development, complaints management, and policies and practices.
As part of the Standards, businesses and organisations also need to create environments that promote and uphold the right to cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. This is known in the legislation as the Universal Principle, and it means making Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children feel welcome, safe, valued, included and respected. A lack of cultural safety can be a harm type for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
