The Queensland Family and Child Commission (the Commission) provides systemic oversight of the child protection and family support system. To deliver this function the Commission monitors, reviews and reports on system issues impacting on the safety and wellbeing of Queensland’s children and their families. 

The Commission has led system reviews at the request of the Queensland Government in response to deaths or serious harm to children and from these system reviews the Commission has made recommendations to government on how to improve safety and prevent critical incidents. Since 2015 the Commission has delivered 10 System reviews featuring 208 distinct recommendations. 

ACIL Allen Review

Section 41 of the Family and Child Commission Act 2014 requires the Queensland Government to arrange an independent review of the performance by the Queensland Family and Child Commission of its functions and table the report in the Legislative Assembly.

ACIL Allen was commissioned by the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) to undertake this independent review (the review) required by legislation. The subsequent report was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 13 January 2022. A copy of the tabled report can be located here.

The QFCC acknowledges and thanks ACIL Allen and DJAG for this report.

The review identified eight areas for improvement by the Commission to optimise its service delivery.
