Youth Sexual Violence and Abuse Steering Committee: Final report

This is the final report of the Committee which sought to build on its first report examining the effectiveness of services dealing with endemic child abuse in West Cairns and Aurukun. This report examines the situation across Queensland for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous children and young people and makes recommendations to create both immediate and long-term change. It analyses the reported incidence of youth sexual violence and abuse in Queensland, considers the links with disadvantage, discusses how the silence that surrounds abuse is a major obstacle to intervention, the impact of advancements in communication technology on risks and intervention opportunities, and considers the structural and systemic changes needed to ensure that no child is left behind.  This final report includes a series of recommendations focusing on actions that will immediately impact and prevent youth sexual violence and abuse and others that will support long-term and generational change.
