All children should feel safe and be safe, all the time. It’s not just individuals who are responsible for protecting children: community groups and organisations also have a role to play.
Children and young people spend a significant amount of time involved with organisations outside of the home, such as sporting and cultural groups and tutoring services, and they are vulnerable to abuse and harm in these settings.
So, it’s up to each organisation to create an environment where children feel safe and are free from harm – this is called a child safe organisation. Child safe organisations must be proactive in preventing child harm and shift the focus from “what could we have done?” to “how can we make sure it doesn’t happen?”.
