Provision of services under the NDIS early childhood early intervention approach

This report by the Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme discusses issues for access to the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Approach which is designed to individually determine the most appropriate support pathway for children aged 0–6 years with a disability or developmental delay. The Committee are concerned that under current access arrangements  families who can afford expensive assessments and reports are able to use these to expedite their child's access to the scheme. The report also highlights other concerns with the current operation of the scheme. It concludes with 20 recommendations to strengthen the effectiveness of the scheme to ensure appropriate supports for children to reach their full potential.
