Australian Federal Police release an app to streamline the missing child reporting process

news

The thought of children and young people going missing can be a tough topic to think about and although the vast majority of children who go missing are in fact returned safely, in the distressing event that this occurs we know that every minute counts when a search is commenced. The Australian Federal Police now have an app called ‘Police Child ID’ which allows families to store photographs and critical information about their children on their mobile phone. This information can then be shared with authorities.

Adapted from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Child ID App in the United States, this collaborative effort will help parents and guardians more easily collect and send important information about their child/children to authorities in the event of a disappearance or abduction.

The application also includes safety advice and checklists for parents on keeping children safe, and information about what to do in the hours immediately after a child goes missing.

If you’re a parent, carer, grandparent or have friends with children, encourage them to download the Police Child ID app, it’s free for Android and iPhone users.
