Public health actions to mitigate long-term consequences of child maltreatment

This paper discusses public health interventions for adults who have experienced child maltreatment. The authors propose three different intervention targets to address child maltreatment difficulties that are experienced in adults. These difficulties focus on problems with emotional regulation, social functioning and self-concept. The authors suggest these interventions should be of benefit to victims of childhood maltreatment and may also reduce the intergenerational transmission of the consequences of child maltreatment.
