This article provides Peakcare's preliminary assessment of the implications of the recommendations in the final report of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse for Queensland’s legislative, policy and practice frameworks. Peakcare identified critical messages from the final report for addressing the issues identified by the Royal Commission. Examples of key messages included addressing poor organisational culture and practices, valuing and listening to children and young people and recognising their right to safety in organisations. Residential care settings were identified as often being characterised by poor and unsafe standards of care for children. The article also discusses other recommendations relevant to Queensland's out-of-home care system.
