Negative online experiences: State of play

This information paper from the e-Safety Commissioner reports on how Australian children and young people deal with negative online experiences. The most negative experience reported by children and young people was having unwanted contact or receiving unwanted content (33%), while just over 1 in 5 reported social exclusion, and similar numbers reported threats and abuse. They were most likely to seek help from informal networks (71%) rather than from formal networks (24%). When they witnessed the victimisation of others they were most likely to respond by providing direct advice to the victim, while only 16% sought help from formal networks.
