This review into regional, rural and remote education conducted an extensive literature review, received submissions from members of the public, government agencies, education authorities, private sector organisations and the philanthropic sector as well as conducting face-to-face consultations in regional, rural and remote locations around the country and all of the capital cities. Students from regional, rural and remote communities have generally lagged behind urban students for decades. The Review identified nine factors which have a major impact on students' achievements. These were: (1) curriculum and assessment; (2) teachers and teaching; (3) leaders and leadership; (4) school and community; (5) information and communication technology; (6) entrepreneurship and schools; (7) improving access - enrolments, clusters, distance education and boarding; (8) diversity; and (9) transitioning beyond school. The report includes a range of recommendations to address these factors.
