This research evaluated the impact of the Pathways to Success Program which provided improved support for students from a refugee background in the senior secondary years in two schools. The evaluation identified a range of school approaches that can foster good outcomes in completing the South Australian Certificate of Education for young people from refugee backgrounds. These approaches were categorised under four key areas. First, know students and their contexts; second, build an inclusive school culture; third, understand the South Australian Certificate of Education and its flexibilities; and lastly, staff practices (e.g. engage in professional learning to understand student diversity and language learning strategies across the curriculum and identify and enact policies to support refugee learners).
