Autistic girls’ brains show distinct anatomical features

This research examined sex differences in brain structure among autistic children  and adults. Compared with controls, autistic girls and women had less integrity in several nerve tracts, with the differences being greater on the left side of the brain than on the right. This finding may explain some of the autistic girls’ challenges with language. There were no apparent differences in brain structure between autistic and typical boys.
