Provision of services under the NDIS early childhood early intervention approach

This report by the Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme discusses issues for access to the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Approach which is designed to individually determine the most appropriate support pathway for children aged 0–6 years with a disability or developmental delay. The Committee are concerned that under current access arrangements  families who can afford expensive assessments and reports are able to use these to expedite their child's access to the scheme.

AusPlay focus: Women and girls participation

This report examines the participation of Australian women and girls in sport and physical activity and compares male and female participation. Overall, females were found to be just active and participate as frequently as males although females' active sessions tended to be less intense and shorter on average. While parenthood negatively impacted on women's physical activity, the effect was as pronounced for men.

Small town challenge: Pillars of communities: Service delivery professionals in small Australian towns 1981-2011.

This report presents the results of a review into the availability of health, education and social service professionals in towns with populations under 5,000 between 1981 and 2011. While the number of professionals in inner regional small towns grew by 85%, in remote and very remote areas the growth was only 7%. In these towns occupants were most likely to have a nurse or primary school teacher than any other type of service delivery professional.
