Families are First

The Families are First movement explores, celebrates and shares over 60,000 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parenting wisdom to raise children to thrive in a strong community.

It is a flagship initiative of the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) developed with the support of the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Pricewaterhouse Indigenous Consulting, Gilimbaa, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and leaders.

The QFCC will be journeying across Queensland, speaking with families and communities and continuing to build on and share the rich understanding of culture and connection in parenting.

Share your story

Do you know somebody in your community who has a good story? Do you have one to share?

There is no one-way to define great parenting so tell us about your journey, whether as a parent, child, extended family member or kinship carer – what might be normal for you, could be amazing for everyone else!

You are invited to share your unique story as part of the Families are First movement. Upload a video or photo and tell us about your journey as a family to build on the movement.

You can also subscribe to hear more about the program and the follow the journey as the Families are First movement continues to grow and collect stories from across the state.
